Expect a different energy balance

Short days, low sun angle, shade, cold batteries, frequent activity, and weak network retries can reduce runtime. Fully charge as directed, clear the solar panel safely, and reduce unnecessary live viewing if power falls.

Keep food and drainage clear

Snowmelt can soak seed and refreeze around openings. Remove wet food, clear approved drains without damaging electronics, and let washable parts dry completely before refilling.

Prevent unsafe service trips

Do not climb icy ladders or reach over snowbanks to maintain a feeder. Choose a mount that remains accessible in winter and inspect poles, clamps, cables, and branches after storms.

Handle condensation carefully

Moving cold hardware into warm humid air can create moisture. Follow the manufacturer’s acclimation and charging guidance and keep ports dry before connecting power.
