Test the complete visit workflow

A useful app should let you understand when detection begins, which events create an alert, where clips appear, how you find them again, and whether you can export the original. Check live view and event history separately: one can work while the other is delayed or plan-limited. App-store reviews can reveal questions to investigate, but they are not documentation for the current camera and plan.

Separate account facts from device facts

Record the exact camera model, app name, phone operating system, account region, and plan. Some benefits attach to an account, others to a linked device, and older devices may have legacy terms. Birdfy currently describes account-based membership with device limits. Birdbuddy documents guest postcard access separately from plan-dependent guest live-stream access. Do not carry either structure to another brand.

Audit downloads, sharing and cancellation before you need them

Prove how to download one original photo and video, remove a guest, delete a clip, and recover the account. Birdbuddy currently documents phone downloads and guest invitations, but the exact permissions and membership boundary still matter. Save important clips outside the app before a trial, retention period, account closure, or plan change can affect access.

Use support quality as a buying criterion

Find the current setup guide, storage explanation, membership terms, privacy controls, app update history, service-status path, and human support route before committing. Save the relevant pages with the date checked. If a required feature is described only in a retailer title or for a different model family, mark it unknown and hold the purchase.

Treat live view and continuous streaming as different claims

Live view usually means opening the camera on demand. It does not establish an always-on public stream, instant wake-up, unlimited session length, or free access. Confirm wake delay, viewing limits, simultaneous viewers, audio controls, power use, and plan boundaries for the exact camera and account.

Compare live view with saved events

A dependable event history may be more useful than continuous viewing when visits are brief. Test live view, alerts, thumbnails, event playback, downloads, retention, and local storage separately. One path can work while another is delayed, offline, or limited by account terms.
