Choose a privacy-respecting view
Frame the perch and feeder without capturing neighboring windows, private yards, sidewalks, or public areas unnecessarily. Disable audio if it is not useful and review local rules when recording could include other people.
Protect the account
Use a long unique password, multifactor authentication when offered, and individual sharing rather than a shared password. Remove old users and devices promptly and avoid exposing pairing codes.
Understand data handling
Review cloud location, retention, downloads, deletion, AI processing, support access, and what happens when an account closes. Local storage changes the threat model but still requires physical and account security.
Maintain connected hardware
Install legitimate updates, use the official app, keep the home network secure, and retire unsupported devices thoughtfully. Reset the camera and remove saved media before resale or disposal.
